Beyonce in Blackface

Beyonce in Blackface
I came across this interesting article at Times.com today. Everyone is making a big to-do about Beyonce doing a photoshoot in black face. Black face gets a bad rap because racist white people used it to play black characters in old movies and plays, often in a less than positive light.  It has become a taboo because it harkens back to a time where racism was the standard, and public ridicule was a common past time. Anytime black face is involved, you know things have gotten way out of hand. (Remember the UCSD Compton Cookout Scandal?
Beyonce's too thin legs
But is what Beyonce did wrong? No. That is why I wrote this blog post. I think Beyonce did nothing wrong. She is a proud black woman who has identified herself as as role model for young black girls. She is taking black face back. Just like the N word. I still can't say the N word, and I probably will never be allowed to appear in black face. There is a big difference in what those UCSD frat kids did and what beyonce did. She isn't dressing up in black face so she can make fun of black people, she is dressing up in black face to show the beauty of black women, and not just the light skinned ones at that.
What peaked my interest more was Beyonce's legs.  She was supposed to be the beautiful thick woman, a role model for normal sized women. She isn't a size 8 there, she is a size 0. I would understand losing a lot of weight if she were still cutting her teeth in the business, but now that she is an icon, she can afford to be a role model.
