I knitted this sweater with 9 skiens of Andean Treasure Yarn 100% baby alpaca wool from Knitpicks. It looks like the red iron oxide color I chose is no longer listed. It was wonderful to knit with. The yarn would slip over my fingers like melted butter.
Update: as with all good things, this sweater met its end. I accidentally put it in the wash and it was felted.
The pattern was from Vogue knitting holiday 2010. The pattern called for Berroco's Flecked "Blackstone Tweed" but I decided to use the alpaca instead. I think my choice was ultimately better because its actually a nicer material at $4.99 a skien. The Berroco was a mixture of wool/superkid mohair/angora rabbit hair at $8.99 a skien. The thickness seems okay despite the substitution, and I actually didn't have to change my gauge from the one listed in the pattern. It was almost too good to be true. The only misgiving is that I don't have the cool freckled effect that the pattern shows. I'll have to handwash both anyway.
With most of the pattern being stockenette, I was able to finish this sweater casually in 2 weeks.
