So I've started running again. This most recent tryst with running is corresponding with my recent move to Rancho Bernardo, so I think it just might stick. I took a run to the Rancho Bernardo Public library and I was astounded to find that it was a mile and a half. I casually took a 2 mile run to pick up my library book. I even stopped by the Barons to get a bottle of wine.
The people at Barons are so nice, by the way. They saw me in running gear and a back pack just buying a bottle of wine and thought, "Wow it must be an emergency" and let me cut in front of the long line to pay. They even all giggled at me getting carded as they reminisced their younger days. It was a good solid textured experience.
During one of my painting (panting) sessions after my long run, I listened to Stuff Mom Never told you about women's marathon running. There was a statistic about how runners on average buy 3 pairs of shoes a year. I looked down at my old discontinued Asics and realized I haven't bought shoes in 3 years. That was a bit forgivable a year ago when I was a poor college student. Now, I have no excuse. I have been flirting with the idea of getting into the barefoot running craze and buy some FiveFingers shoes, but now I'm all in. Ariel forwarded me a Groupon and I'll be buying them this next weekend when I visit Koby's swapmeet.
I'm so excited, and frankly I have no one else to talk to. All my old running partners are in grad school now, and until I make some nice local friends, I'll be running solo.
