There are two competing half Marathons on April 28th
in San Diego this year. It’s a tough decision. The races appeal to way
different crowds. GO PROS AND CONS LIST.
Full disclosure, I've never run the Foxy Trails Half.

Point of View

Course
Out and Back
Point to Point
La Jolla. I think Point to Point is way more exciting and
more difficult to pull off from both a runners and race organizers view
point.

Trails, Lake Views

HILLS, Ocean views.
La Jolla. This one is subjective though. Trails are not my
cup of tea.

Price
Now $75

Now $90
Foxy is cheaper
Support
The trail doesn’t support that many people and they are
having us carry our own water bottles.
La Jolla is a massive established race. There will be
spectators, water stations, snacks, and even vasoline.
La Jolla if you are the social type of person. Some would
argue that the support is the only reason someone would pay to run.
Series
I just heard of this, but Foxy is apart of a 4 part half
marathon series called The Dirt Devil Half Marathon Animal Series. Apparently the medals interlock to form a
large super medal. Appealing.
Everyone has heard of the San Diego Half Marathon Triple Crown. I earned it back in 2009
painfully.
Tie.
Expo
Packet pick up
The expo is a party.
La Jolla for me. For some people the expo just isn’t that
fun, though.
Morning of Logistics
Small race means very little trouble getting there.
A 20 minute drive turns into an hour and a half trying to
get to the starting line in Del Mar. There is a shuttle to get from the
finish like back to the car, but those always turn stressful.
Foxy. I live down the street so it’s the most convenient
thing in the world.
Street Cred
A small trail race is downright alternative.
This is the toughest half marathon in San Diego.
Foxy. The cool kids run trails nowadays.
The Record
Actually, the course is 13.3 miles
A set in stone bonified certified course.
Tie. Stuff like this is important if you want to qualify
for Boston. Not necessarily for me.
