Every weekend this month we spend some time surfing. It is
so amazing to get out there on the waves. It is so relaxing. It was a little
bit harder this labor day weekend since it was so crowded, but it wasn’t
crowded in a load and bothersome way. The roar of the waves is so loud that its
easy to feel like I was alone even around so many people. Its almost like a lot
of people don’t go to the beach to have a peaceful earthy experience. Some
people only go when its crowded because it feels like a huge party. For this
reason, I am looking forward to continuing my beach and surfing experiences
into the winter, of which the beach will definitely not be a happening place.
I successfully did my first 5.10 crack lead with Robbins Crack
earlier this month. I also have been managing to do the 5.8+s, 5.9 sport leads
at the gym. The gym manager at Solid Rock has been giving me advice when he
can, and he thinks that I should just go ahead and take some massive falls. Then,
and only then, will my irrational fear of climbing related death be overcame.
At this point in time, I am finding my legs feel quivery even when I get a few
inches over the bolt.
3)
School starting.
I officially started school the last week of August. I was
turned off by it immediately. I am taking freshmen level classes as
prerequistes for my Masters degree so I am taking classes with a bunch of 18
year olds who are deciding how to have their “college experience”. I just am
not in that mindset. I wish the professors didn’t assume this about their
students as well, because every sidebar about how we will behave when we
someday become engineers its annoying the crap out of me. The decorum of my
fellow students is also annoying the crap of me. I just hope that I can
maintain school-work balance with all this class time.
4)
Masters Degree Orientation
I met some really amazing people in the SDSU Masters Degrees
in Mechanical Engineering Orientation earlier this week. I met an Olympic
hopeful as well as this girl who was in the exact same program as me at UCSD. I
am even starting to hope that I make some friends. I met with the Graduate
Student advisor afterward to ask what was going on with all these prerequisites
that I had to take. I was flabbergasted that I had to take 6! He eased my fears
by telling me that all students that enter The mechanical engineering degree
masters program with a different degree are required to take 6 classes, and
that might mine be easier than most. I was a little bit relieved when I heard
that, because by all means I do not want to be considered a remedial student,
but 6 classes part time adds a whole year and a half to a two year degree. At
the part time rate that I am currently traveling, this masters degree might
cost me 4-5 years of my life. I am hoping that I can still keep my work
performance up with all this, but I am worried that something will have to
give. Working 40 hours a week with 10 hours of class time on top of that was
rough this week, and I’m envisioning aging by 10 years this next half decade.

Labor day sale – New Jeans!
I succumbed to the labor day sale craziness by buying some
new jeans
at Lucky this past weekend. They are so
cute, and even though I am going back for a masters degree, I think I deserve a
little back to school shopping.
6)
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan.
I recently read the book Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan.
This book was so good, I sped through it in less than 3 days. It was the most
glamorous book I’ve ever read, period. I loved the all Asian cast, and I am
really hoping the rumors about a movie are true! Now I am reading Devil in the
White City by Erik Larson.
7)
Engagement Party
My engagement party was on August 16th 2014. It
was a huge success and even though it was stressful and there was a lot of
expectations, we managed to get through it with flying colors. Some stresses in
life are unnecessary and some are, this was unfortunately one of those
necessary ones.
8)
Thank you cards are so late!
One lingering item on our to do list is the thank you cards
for the engagement party. It has been two full weeks. If you are expecting one,
do not worry, because it will come.
9)
Almost Lost my Sunglasses
We almost had to say RIP to the cutest pair of sunglasses I
have ever owned. Over at dog beach Del Mar they accidentally fell of my face as
I stood. They dropped into the water and Immediately lost eye contact with
them. It was heart breaking. I went ahead and gave alex the board and layed
into the sand to wallow, and he came back just a moment later with them. It was
the greatest stroke of luck in the world.

Bouldering
more and more and more
My Friend Scott loaned me his crash pad while he went away
to Yosemite Mid august and I still have not yet given it back. This form of commandeering
is borderline theft, I know, but I’ve been making good use of it with full
transparency that I’ll give it back whenever he wants. The week he loaned it to
me I went to Santee Boulders 4 times. That’s an intense amount of climbing for
me. I am still afraid of the heights, but I’m happy to say that I’ve been able
to work on it more since this act of largess.
