UCSD named #1 by Washington Monthly

Today it came to my attention that my alma mater, UCSD, was elected number 1 school in the nation by Washington Monthly. Unlike the more commonly regarded US News School ranking, Washington Monthly ranked their schools according to some loosely defined social service criteria.

You would think that, as a proud Bachelor degree holding graduate from UCSD, I would be in agreement with these findings. I frankly am not. Most UCSD students would probably have the same reaction. The one conversation I remember having over and over again at that school was the complete lack over school pride. We banded together even in our lack of pride. That inarticulate feeling of collective isolation that I had while attending that school is probably the reason why I am just so dang surprised we won accolades for social achievement.

As skeptical as I am,  I wouldn't say that I am in disgusting disagreement like the Forbes article on this subject.

Why?
