Alex and I planned to spend 7 days in Los Cabos over Christmas Break for our 3 months overdue honeymoon. We flew Alaska Airlines and had the opportunity to upgrade to first class during checkin and that little luxury made the trip just a little bit more special. I was able to check one item off my bucket list and the short 2 hour flight made the allowance quite reasonable.
I am spoiling Alex. He loved flying first class. I did not
think that I would notice the extra space or the first on first out privileges
quite so pointedly as I did. They served us a lovely light lunch as unlimited
beverages. Alex noted that the servers checked on us more often than we needed
something, which was a first for him. I
spent the flight listening to the indie music selection on the wifi and journaling
about my expectations of the trip. When the flight was over, I didn’t feel
exhausted of the traveling experience, which I normally do.
The in flight lunch consisted of a grapefruit salad with a
thick piece of buttered bread on the side. The raspberry vinaigrette was a bit
too sweet for my taste.
The candy on the side was eggnog. How festive!
There was a vegetarian restaurant right across from the
hotel called Cynthia Fresh. I thought I would have a hard time getting
vegetarian food on the peninsula but it was more convenient than I could have
imagined.
I ordered a creamy gorgonzola pasta and Alex ordered
gorgonzola and blue cheese fish salad. My meal came with a side salad as well.
Alex ordered a Margarita but I was still coasting off my wine from the plane to
partake. I still owe a Mai Tai to Claire (holla)
The restaurant was very Americanized, giving prices in both
USD and MEX, but it was eye opening in another way. They didn’t take credit
cards! There will be a few things to get used to on this trip. Sure, the first
restaurant not accepting credit cards was not exactly a hard hitting cultural
experience, but it still is an adjustment. I thought I could get by on just my
No foreign transaction fee card. We took out money out at the cambio exchanging
just a few paces down the road. Tomorrow is our first full day and we are
looking forward to waking up in mexico!
