Los Cabos Day 7: Horseback Riding and Cabo Azul Spa in our Last Day

We went horseback riding at the Bonanza Ranch for one hour on the beach. It was so beautiful and a completely different experience than I have ever had before.

This wasn’t a straightforward dude ride where the horses were tied together slowly marching along a narrow trail. We were on our own horses. We were given the reins and taught how to use them. We galloped.  We navigated our horses around lagoons, traffic, beach goers, and roundabouts. I was actually quite scared about the whole thing. The instructor took us past an estuary in a beachside freshwater lagoon. It turned out to be a majestic experience. This little expedition will probably be our favorite part of the trip.

Afterwards we took our bowlegs and saddle sores nearby to the Cabo Azul spa where we purchased a day pass for the Jacuzzi, sauna, steam, and cold plunge package. I completely overdid the Jacuzzi. The spa attendant told me that I should stay in the Jacuzzi for 20 minutes and I somehow inferred that the Jacuzzi was on a timer, which it wasn’t.  I think I stayed in that Jacuzzi for almost an hour. The spa was so relaxing and I had a novel in hand. It was easy to lose track of time. Sure, I felt like my muscles were boiling off of the bone, but I thought I had only another minute before the Jacuzzi turned off. Sweat was pouring down my face before I decided that the Jacuzzi had the best of me. My heart was beating like I had escaped death by the time I sank into the cold plunge.

We had dinner at the Tropicana where I had the best chilli relleno of my life. The pepper was breaded perfectly allowing for a little bit more heft than the other chili rellenos I have ever had. Alex had a 2-for-1 margertia that had him stumbling out of there.

I felt an overwhelming pressure to catch up so had ourselves a mini pub crawl in downtown San Jose Del Cabo. We visited the View, Downtown Pub, and Retro Bar and Grill. The View had live music playing which sounded a little bit tinny coming out of the speakers, but it had a beautiful view of the plaza and lit Christmas tree. We then headed across to the Downtown Pub that had 2-for-1 specials on their margaritas we had about four of them with a side of small popcorn with tajin.

Traditional Aztecs dancing took place In the Plaza. I tipped them but it was totally weird I did that. The Dancers thanked me but no one else was tipping and they didn’t have a bowl setup for it or anything.

The last stop of the night was Retro Bar and Grill. It was getting late but we totally thought we had until 11 o clock before the busses stopped running. I had a good buzz going up until this point. I was doing a good job of drinking a whole bottle of water between each glass I consumed, but I think the Jacuzzi experience dehydrated me beyond all belief. By the time I drank my vodka spiked milkshake (playfully entitled “Alexander The Great”, I knew I was in trouble. When I closed my eyes the room would spin and I couldn’t feel my fingertips. We laughed at eachother all night even though we missed the last bus back into town. We spent my last 100 peso on a taxi and called it a night.

We woke up the next morning feeling sick in our own ways. My throat feel raw and alex’s stomach wouldn’t settle.

It was the best way we could have spent our last day in Cabo. We gave it all we could and went out with a bang.
