Keyways Winery |
I like to go wine tasting in Temecula once a year in the summer time. My last trip was a bit lackluster in comparison to Sonoma two years ago or so, but I think we had much better luck this time. Temecula is amazing as long as you kept it light, sweet, and white.
We visited Longshadow Ranch, Keyways, and Robert Renzoni.

The 15 North to Temecula Wine Country |
Temecula Wine Country isn't so far if you live in North County San Diego. The drive is about 45 minutes north of Rancho Bernardo.

We packed a picnic lunch with Jimbo Grocers Sandwiches and ate them on the
Longshadow Ranch Picnic Tables. It was perfect because I could drink Gunslingers Outlaw Red with my Lone Star (vegan!) sandwich.
Its easy to like Longshadow Ranch Winery because of the chilled wild west atmosphere and the chocolate boot full of port, but the real draw is the animals. They had a baby shaved alpaca! It was adorable beyond words.

Goodbye Long Shadow Ranch |
Still Feeling fresh, we went to Matt and Casey's favorite winery:
Keyways. It was only a short drive away on side streets.
Keyways is amazing because it has amazing friendly service and the sweetest of sweet desert wines. Its always less busy than some of the other power house wineries. Also its air conditioned, which is amazingly refreshing on hot summer days.

Me at Keyways |
I really liked thier ice wine, moscato, and tempernillo, in that order. That is more than I can say for Longshadow which was a little disappointing flavor wise in my opinion. They were so nice to talk to.
We then headed to practically one winery over to Robert Renzoni. The friendly Keyways staff told us about how
Robert Renzoni built a brand new tasting room as recently as 2 months ago. I could tell it was brand new by the looks of it.

The Walk way to Robert Renzoni |
They had a huge patio for lounging but not many tables and chairs. I can tell it will be magical when the fireplace is lit up and a live band plays maybe at sunset. Not that we saw anything like that.

I loved the gold balls on top of the patio awning. It was very art deco. It reminded me of 30 Rock back in New York City.
It was a fabulous trip. I definitely feel like I drank enough even though we visited 3 instead of 4 tasting rooms. It was enough to get tipsy, eat a meal, and drive home without hurting ourselves. It also filled an entire afternoon. I can't wait until the fancy to visit San Diego wine country strikes again.
