New Years Resolutions 2015

I tend to do well with resolutions. I am two years strong in completing them. Many of the most rewarding and memorable experiences have stemmed from a resolution in one way for another.

Here are 5 resolutions I hope to achieve this year

1.   .  Travel Abroad

I renewed my passport this month. It was a too real reminder that I haven’t left the country in several years. I had a chance to visit Canada last year, but I decided to overlook the opportunity in favor of being conservative about my studies. This year, I should take more of a chance.

2.     2. Keep my job
The allure of quitting my job to focus on school is quite strong. School is a huge priority in my life, and my path is so long that I fear that my interest will peter off with time. I must fight my hardest to reject this inclination. I love my job, and the experience is invaluable. Of course, that calculus could change. For now though, having a job improves my standard of living and allows me to maintain independence.

3.     Keep running

I like running. I have done the whole distance training thing, and it was a really valuable way to learn about running. It just doesn’t feel good to be constantly training. I just want to develop a routine. I want to be running 3 times a week all year, but I don’t want to hold myself to that. I just want to make sure I don’t have a long pocket of time of which I am not exercising at all.  I will consider myself successful if I a strong running habit in December.

4.     Visit the ocean, the mountains, the desert
I wanted to be specific and say that I was going to get better at surfing, climbing, and hiking, but I suppose I didn’t care to quantify how well I want to do. I just want to keep active and have new experiences. I know if I start the summer surfing, I will most likely make it out again. I just need to maintain activity.

5.     Refrain from watching Netflix on Saturdays
This will be a hard one to keep up. I have a nasty habit of vegging out on the weekends. It is distracting. This is just a device I will use to stay more active. Its not horrible to want to relax a little, but I can accomplish excessively little with my weekends. I will try to keep accountability on this one through my “10 things lately posts” and call it success when I Netflix abstain for greater than 50% of each month.

I have a lot planned this year. If I can manage to hang in there and keep my head above water, I can call this year successful.
