10 things lately, December

Whoa I haven’t posted since October! Here are 10 things to catch you up

1) It is colder now. When I say cold I mean San Diego cold.  Alex and I JUST bought a space heater and I already feel like it is wrecking my skin. The area just gets so dry when artificial heat is applied. We are thinking we should turn on the humidifier full blast while we sleep for maximum climate control.

2) I loved shopping at the Carlsbad antique district. We spent all last Saturday walking around and visiting the boutiques. I bought a fur coat and a really neat book stand. I just don’t know when I’ll get a chance to wear the coat. I have several fur coats already and they just don’t get enough play. Its always either too fancy or I have to worry about being inappropriate wearing fur. I do tend to hang out in the vegan joints and I don’t want paint on me.

3) We are cooking again. We acquired Meatless by Martha Stewart and it has been fabulous. Every single recipe we made so far had a butternut squash in it. Is it audacious to want to eat every single recipe from this book? It’s the best cookbook I own and I have at least 30 of them.

4) I haven’t been running, and I hate it. The mornings have been perfectly foggy and I’ve been stuck at home. I just haven’t quite recovered from the gnarly sprain I got slipping on that errant rock 4 weeks ago. My ankle just keeps staying a shade swollen and I am worried about making it worse. Its really a shame because I have the cutest pair of glittery heels that match my pink jumper that have basically been abandoned. Alex says its probably a good thing because the shoes are a bit too matchy matchy for his tastes.

5) School actually hasn’t been going that well. Taking time away from studying to plan and execute the wedding really took a toll on my midterm grades. Yeah, I actually got an F on the first midterm in one of my classes. This is normally the time when old maria would have beat herself up but I think I am going to give myself a pass.  The wedding was really tough, and I tend to be too hard on myself. I got A’s on my second round of midterms and may actually be able to pass by with Bs or greater if I continue this pace through the finals. I just need to make a B to not have to retake any of these courses.

6) I saw the Gulls play at the San Diego Sports Arena on Saturday November 14th 2015. This was the first hockey game I’ve watched all the way through let alone live. It was so much fun and highly watchable. The only qualm I had was how much fighting there was. At one point one of the hockey players threw off his gloves and started punching one of the men on the opposite team in the ear. He got several clean shots in. I was highly uncomfortable.  People were cheering for him. At that moment I hoped that in this highly contrived situation he wasn’t feeling coerced into being awful just because thousands of people were observing him. They even put it on the monitor and replayed it. The referees just didn’t seem to intervene so much. I don’t know. Maybe I am just not used to that sort of adrenaline fueled bloodlust.

7)  I ordered a plum planner from etsy. I’ve been wanting to jump on the erin condren bandwagon but I am just not used to that calendar format. I am used to a horizontal moleskein weekly format. What is nice about the moleskien is that there is a blank page for every week. I normally use that page to put little drawings or little goal charts with spaces for stickers when I achieve it. I don’t know how I would translate all that momentum into a vertical planner. I ordered the planner a week ago and its supposed to take two whole weeks before it arrives. It may even come in December! Then I will only have a month to figure it out before the new year hits and it goes live. I am being 100% serious. This is serious stuff.

8) I added a few more podcasts to my Roster to get me through my daily commute. I started listening to “Women of the Hour” by Lena Dunham, “Nutrition Diva” and “The Tim Ferris Show”. I am now subscribed to 11 podcasts.

9). I read the book “Trading up” by Candace Bushnell. It was a great beach read.

10. I saw the Movie Creed and I Loved it. I think I might like sports movies who would have thunk it. I started a movie marathon recently to watch all of the Rocky Balboa Movies.

BONUS

11) I cut my hair! This may be like an everyday thing for some people but I feel like it has completely overhauled my look. I’ll try to post photos soon.

Things I hope to talk to you’all soon.
