Lululemon hosted a Run/Yoga today which I found out through the San Diego Runners (SDR) Meetup group There is a host of social networking manipulation that lead me to hear about this event, yes, but it culminated into something that has potential.
So I started out not expecting anything. I didn't even expect to meet anyone so I brought along my effervescent friend Casey to be my sidekick. The website gave us very specific instructions about we should proceed approaching the establishment. It told us to walk in at 8am, put down our yoga mat, listen to directions, then begin our run at 8:15. I came into the cleared out clothing store tepidly with my yoga mat, worried about it being stolen should I leave alone. It's a manduka so I worry about stupid stuff like that. Apparently the store wasn't open yet so my mat would be just as protected as the rest of the merchandise in the store when we headed out.
Everyone was FAST. The doors swung open and my group of 20 runners flew out the doors like bats outta hell. By the time I took my first step, the tower of amazons were a block away. I settled into being the last person in the group. Well, me, my effervescent friend who I thanked my lucky stars that I brought, and one amazing barefoot runner. I run barefoot like barefoot-shoes-barefoot, he was actually toes-on-the-ground barefoot. He and I ran the day before so we were just kicking back on a sunday morning recovery run. I had a lot more fun than I thought I would.
The running director told us that we had to come back into the store by 9 or it would be no dice about making the lesson or our car keys if we left em in there. I showed up sweaty and at a much higher energy level than the Yogis that had settled in while I was away. I was sweaty and smelly too. The yoga itself was really good. Really really chill. It was on par with RB Yoga in its chill factor. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the Yoga instructor that they were featuring, unfortunately. It was just a little teensy weensy bit funny though. The theme of the lesson was "rose" and it featured aromatherapy and petal props in addition to consistent analogies about how we were all rosebuds in a garden. The class was Crazy crowded so we rosebuds kept growing around eachother. It was cute, relaxing, and just a tiny bit hilarious in retrospect.
Well the most hilarious/cool thing to me was that there was LIVE MUSIC. Its in all caps because the live music was a bit too loud. I felt like the yoga instructor had to yell some of the instructions.
I loved it. Yoga to me is about relaxation, but my sidekick said that the intensity level was too low while the run intensity was too high. I agree, but it worked for because the situation favors runners.
There was even a raffle to win tickets to a yoga concert in Point loma this April. I did not win it, but I think I might have to check it out anyway.
And that brings an end to my high milage week.
